Beautiful and colorful, most hydrangea flowers are non-irritants. The Bigleaf or Florist’s Hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla) are the safest bets, while you’ll want to stay away from Pee Gee (H. paniculata ‘Grandiflora’) and Oak Leaf Hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia).
Begonia
Begonias are a free-flowering plant, so they shed very little pollen. And, unlike hydrangea, any type of begonia will be safe to put in your home or garden.
Hosta
Hosta flowers are cut off before they bloom in most cases, meaning you won’t have to worry about pollen. They also require little sunlight or water—perfect for brown-thumbs.
Lilies
Granted, lilies have pollen, and in the wild they can cause any allergy sufferer to reach for the tissues. However, the stamens and anthers of the plant which trigger our allergies can be removed—just be careful not to stain your clothes with pollen in the process.
Orchid
While orchids have pollen, they usually don’t trigger allergies unless you have very sensitive or severe pollen allergies. So if you suffer from mild allergies, orchids are a safe bet to put in your home.
Petunia
These have a faint fragrance, but their pollen is considered non-allergenic. But like with orchids, you should make sure you don’t have severe or sensitive allergies before putting one in your home.
Viola and pansies
Pansies are a part of the viola family, a group of flowers which have a thick, sticky pollen, meaning it doesn’t become airborne. As a result, it shouldn’t trigger any allergies.
